Cardiology Private Patient Unit, Wycombe General Hospital, Queen Alexandra Road, High Wycombe, HP11 2TT
Today | Closed |
Private consultations are held on Monday afternoons in the cardiology private patient unit (PPU) or the Consultation Rooms on the Upper Ground Floor at Wycombe General Hospital. If there is a clinical/exceptional need, we will do our best to arrange an appointment on another day.
All new patients will be invited for a face to face appointment.
Our dedicated nursing team will receive you and measure your vital signs (weight, blood pressure etc).
You will then see Dr Shanmuganathan, Consultant Cardiologist. He will take a medical history and perform a physical examination of your heart, lungs and circulation.
You may be advised to undergo blood tests and ECG on the day, which will be performed by the dedicated nursing team. Dr Shanmuganathan's team will explain the costs of these tests.
You may be offered a prescription for medications which you can obtain from the pharmacy in Wycombe General Hospital on the same day.
Depending on your symptoms, Dr Shanmuganathan may advice you to undergo a heart scan (either an echocardiogram or a heart MRI scan) and/or other related investigations (ECG monitor, blood pressure monitor, CT scan of heart arteries or an angiogram).
You may also be asked to undergo a repeat blood tests at one or two weeks after your visit to monitor your health and response to any medications that you were started on.
All tests are performed fairly quickly (within days) and at your convenience. Reports will be sent to you and your GP by Dr Shanmuganathan.
If you are privately insured, most medical insurance companies will cover this cost. Self-pay fee for a new consultation is £209 and for a follow up consultation is £145.
The costs of all diagnostic tests and treatments can be obtained from Dr Shanmuganathan's team or the private patient office of Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.
